Even if you are not a big fan of skating, you can’t help but be impressed at what this young man can do. (Listen to how excited the announcers are!)
But it didn’t “just happen.” Yes, he did hours and hours and hours of practice….MORE IMPORTANTLY he did the MENTAL practice.
He didn’t just close his eyes and imagine he won; he would spend hours and hours IMAGINING every detail of his routine.
Many believed they would never see a quad axel in this lifetime and now we have that plus 5 other perfect quads.
Kind of like when Roger Bannister did the impossible and became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes.
Just six weeks later, someone else did and so on and so on.
See, it was a common belief that no one could run a mile in less than 4 minutes, but once Roger Bannister did it, people believed they could too and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy!
How can you use this in your own life?
Think of a time when you did a mental dress rehearsal of how EVERYTHING went wrong…and then it did!
Now think of a time when you did a different kind of dress rehearsal and imagined everything going well. Maybe it was having a difficult conversation with a loved one and you imagined staying calm and in control, regardless of how the other person reacted. No suprise! There’s a much greater chance that that conversation went better than you had anticipated.
Garbage in/garbage out is a term used in computer technology and it works with our beautiful brains too. What we program in/wire into our brain (our mental dress rehearsal) becomes our reality.
