ONE Habit

little by little, a little becomes A LOT - how habits are formed

As we wrap up this first week of the New Year, I hope you are feeling positive and optimistic about the year ahead.

Many of us charge into the New Year with a whole list of resolutions, only to fall back into old behaviors by the 3rd week of January. Isn’t doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result the definition of insanity?

What if you totally ditched the idea of New Year’s Resolutions and did JUST ONE THING new?

This ONE HABIT could totally change your life.

Imagine feeling calm, confident and happy – no matter what’s going on around you.

Oh, I can hear you now – the monkey mind screaming with all the ways that isn’t going to happen.

Before I share what this one simple change is, I’d like you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine it’s New Year’s Eve at the end of this year. You reflect back on the past 12 months, and you notice that you DO feel calmer, more confident and happier!

How did this happen? You practiced this one habit over and over again!

Like all of the techniques I share, this is so simple, you can very easily dismiss it.

But can I invite you to suspend your disbelief and make the decision to do this one simple thing for the next 7 days?

OK – are you ready?

Starting tomorrow morning, as soon as you are done brushing your teeth, look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a high five!

THAT’S IT! Seriously – give yourself a high five on the mirror!

You may think “oh this is B.S.” but what have you got to lose?

Think about how many times you have high fived someone else. I do it ALL THE TIME with my clients, and when I began practicing high fiving myself, I could feel the difference!

You see, when we high five – whether someone else or ourselves, it gets our bodies to produce dopamine and serotonin – the happy hormones!

Now, I get it – you may feel really uncomfortable looking at yourself in the mirror. Do it anyway! Little by litte, it will get easier!

Ask a friend to do this with you for 7 days. Having an accountability buddy ups your chances of sticking with it!

Please comment below and let me know how this shifts things for you.

PS This amazing technique comes from Mel Robbins. You can listen to her podcast about it here.
